American engineer
Jack Leon Melchor (July 6, – September 5, ) was an American engineer and venture capitalist who is considered a major figure in the early commercial history of Silicon Valley.
Early life and education
Melchor was born in Mooresville, North Carolina, and raised in China Grove, North Carolina.[2] During World War II, he participated in the V Navy College Training Program and was commissioned an ensign in the United States Navy.[2][3]
Following the war, Melchor completed his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received a PhD from the University of Notre Dame in [2][3]
Career
After completing his doctoral work, Melchor relocated to California where he began employment at Sylvania Electronic Defense Labs.[2] In the s he established his own company, Melabs, which he sold in after developing six microwave techno
